Malden Police are no longer searching for a man considered armed and dangerous in connection with a murder investigation.
According to Dunklin County Prosecuting Attorney Nicholas Jain, Steven Michael Kirkwood, 38 of Malden, was arrested early Monday morning, August 24 at a Marston motel without incident.
Kirkwood is charged with second-degree murder, armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon and unlawful possession of a firearm.
He is accused of shooting and killing Ryan Lehnig on August 22 in Malden.
Officers were called to a scene near the intersection of North Decatur and East Howard in Malden where officers found the body of Lehnig of Malden.
A witness told officers that after a brief argument at a home on North Decatur, Kirkwood pulled out a handgun and fired the weapon inside the house.
The witness later stated the victim left the home and was bleeding.
He died later Saturday night from his injuries.
“I loved him with all my heart and soul,” Dawn Eubanks, the victim’s mother, said. “He was my baby and I want justice. I want them to find the one that did this for nothing.”
Kirkwood left the home soon after with an unknown [white] woman.
