A Lorain County jury found that Oberlin College libeled and inflicted emotional distress on the owners of Gibson's Bakery and awarded $11.2 million in damages Friday.
The bakery initially sued the college and the college’s Vice President and Dean of Students Meredith Raimondo for libel, interference with business relationships, interference with contracts, intentional infliction of emotional distress and trespass in 2017. The bakery also sued the college for negligent hiring, retention and supervision.
Apparently the bakery was accused of racism after catching two blacks shoplifting.
