DAILYKENN.com --A study has shown that religious fundamentalism is, at least in part, the result of a functional brain impairment.
The study predicted that a lesion on the ventromedial prefrontal cortex would impair diverse religious beliefs and fortify "religious fundamentalism, or the narrowing of religious beliefs."
In other words, those without a lesion on the ventromedial prefrontal cortex are more open minded while those with a lesion on the ventromedial prefrontal cortex are more closed minded.
Only 119 patients with penetrating traumatic brain injury were observed.
Other studies have concluded that damage to the prefrontal cortex "leaves logical reasoning intact."
The study didn't specifically cite Islamic fundamentalism and seemed intended to discredit Christian fundamentalism. The study's abstract failed to apply other forms of inexorable belief systems, such as chronic socialism, unremitting feminism, and "climate change" fundamentalism.
The abstract also failed to explain why some leave religious fundamentalism or why so many religious fundamentalists aren't smitten with lesions.
It the study is accurate, we should question foreign policies that encourage brain-damaged Islamic fundamentalists to come to our nations.
