DAILYKENN.com --88-year-old Yik Oi Huang was brutally beaten at a playground in the Visitacion Valley neighborhood of San Francisco.
Arrested for the crime is 18-year-old Keonte Gathron.
Reports say the suspect burglarized his victim's home after beating her. Gathron was reportedly charged with attempted murder, burglary and elder abuse, among other charges in connection with the Jan. 8 assault and subsequent burglary.
The victim was hospitalized in critical condition as the result of the attack.
Gathron entered a not guilty plea [source] and is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
Reports cite the victim's granddaughter as saying her family has experienced many burglaries and robberies over the years. “I have no idea why anyone would beat up a helpless, defenseless innocent elderly woman. It is beyond me,” Sasanna Yee said. “She’s made slight improvements since last night, but she’s not awake and on life support.” [source]
Neighbors called for a police substation in the area staffed with officers who speak Chinese and Spanish.
A neighborhood vigil was held.
To our knowledge there has been no protests from self-proclaimed feminists group. Such groups pretend to support women's rights but, in reality, seem to be obsessed with demonizing white males and traditional families. We've also heard no protests voiced from East Asian advocacy groups.
