DAILYKENN.com -- A young black male with a gun and apparent lack of impulse control shot into a group of construction workers, killing one.
Reports say the suspect asked one of the workers for a cigarette. Disappointed when the worker asked him to leave the area, the suspect began to walk away then turned and fired.
Dead is Johnathon Porter, 23.
Prospective criminals will often test potential targets by asking benign questions, such as asking for a cigarette, a light, or to use a cell phone. Depending on the reaction, the criminal will decide if the crime is worth the risk. One criminologist compared it to a shark bumping its prey before attacking.
The irony is that a productive young man lost his life to a violent criminal who may very well be unemployed.
The crime occurred in Kansas City, Missouri.
