Some three dozen white supremacists gathered Saturday night at the statue of Robert E. Lee in Charlottesville, Va., carrying Tiki torches and chanting, “We will be back.’’
The rally at Emancipation Park — formerly Lee Park — lasted less than half an hour, WVIR-TV reported.
Protest leader Richard Spencer taunted in a tweet aimed at Mayor Michael Signer: “It was great to be back in C’ville. We can catch up next time we’re in town.”
Some local residents also had their say on Twitter.
A woman named Cornelia tweeted back, “asshat Nazis back in Charlottesville tonight. These poor boys have no dates on a Saturday night. Pathetic bunch of bozos.’’
On Aug. 12, a counterprotester at a white supremacist rally in Charlottesville was killed when a car plowed into her. The supremacists were protesting a plan to remove the Lee statue.
