DAILYKENN.com -- If elections were held today, Geert Wilders would be the next prime minister of The Netherlands. Wilders, for those who don't know, is the Donald Trump or Nigel Farage of his nation.
Wilders' Party for Freedom would hold more seats the lower house of parliament than competing parties.
Wilders is noted for his desire to end the Islamization of Europe. He was prosecuted on hate speech charges after asking supporters at a rally if they wanted to end unrestrained immigration from Islamic nations. His arrest and prosecution seemed to do little more than bolster his popularity.
Meanwhile in France it appears voters will have a choice between iron-clad nationalist Marine Le Pen, who leads in the polls, and nationalist light Francois Fillon. Fillon won a run-off election to see who would challenge Le Pen in the May, 2017 presidential election. Le Pen is expected to receive the most votes in the first round but Fillon is expected to win the second round.
According to cns.com, "Fillon sees Margaret Thatcher as a role model in fiscal policy, he is a socially conservative Catholic who supports family values, wants to confront Islamist extremism, control immigration, restore France's historic identity and end sanctions on Russia."
