August 14, 2016 -- 54-year-old Janice Trunk, and her boyfriend, 44-year-old Kevin Smith, were fatally shot while they were in bed.

Trunks's 22-year-old son, Joshua Trunk, has been arrested for the crimes.

The crimes reportedly occurred in Norristown, Pennsylvania and were reported August 10, 2016.

According to the criminal complaint, police responded to a report of gunshots at the building on the 100 block of Forest Avenue, to find the two under the covers, already dead.

“When the officers entered the apartment, there were no signs of forced entry, no evidence of the ransacking common to burglaries and no indication of a struggle,” District Attorney Kevin R. Steele said in a press release. “Following a thorough investigation by the Ambler Police and the Montgomery County Detectives, the evidence pointed to the defendant and a family violence situation.”

People who knew the family told investigators that Joshua Trunk had recently returned home from a stay in Eagleville Hospital, and was carrying a gun at all times, even when he slept, the complaint said. A neighbor told detectives that Janice Trunk was struggling to get her son to take his medication.

Another friend of the Trunk family told detectives that Janice Trunk confided in her that “if something ever happens to [her] it would be Josh,” the complaint said.
