SWEDISH police have arrested 14 men on suspicion of preparing attacks on an asylum centre near Stockholm.
Various weapons, including batons, knives, iron bars and axes, were found in the suspects’ cars during arrests on Monday evening in Nynashamn - a small rural town 35 miles south of the capital.
Police spokesman Lars Bystrom said the men were suspected of preparing aggravated assault and arson, but declined to give further details.
The men are yet to have been identified, but Swedish radio has cited local officer Lars Alvarsjo saying they were Polish and possibly members of right-wing groups.
Swedish officials have called for increased security at refugee centres across the country after a volunteer was stabbed to death in January.
Alexandra Mezher, 22, was killed during a night shift at a centre for unaccompanied refugees after she tried to break up a fight between several teenage boys.
A 15-year-old refugee has been arrested for the psychology graduate’s murder.
