DAILYKENN.com -- An 85-year-old man was shot in the head while working in his front yard.
Police are searching for a young black male.
The crime occurred in Jackson, Miss. and was reported Feb. 13, 2016.
Also this week, a 19-year-old girl died after being shot in the head. A young black male confessed to the crime.
Jackson Police are investigating a shooting involving an elderly man as a homicide.
JPD Officer Colendula Green said the victim is 85-year-old James Hankins. Green said Hankins was shot in the back of the head, outside a residence at 843 McCluer Road.
Officer Green said the shooting happened around 11:35 a.m. Saturday and Hankins died around 8:20 p.m.
Green said the man's injuries are considered life threatening. He was transported to UMMC for medical treatment.
Officer Green said the suspect fired several shots striking Hankins on the right side of the back of his head. And the suspect fled the scene on foot, running towards Valley Park Subdivision.
Green said the victim was in the yard doing dirt work, when he was approached by an unknown black male wearing dark colored clothing.
