Joseph Bankston was fatally shot inside his Clarksville home on October 4 when a man came into the home, asked for a jumper cable, and opened fire. Police said the suspect intentionally shot the boy.
Brandon Jiminez, 22, was critically injured in the shooting and taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He remained in critical condition Tuesday.
Joseph died in his grandmother’s arms at the scene. He was two weeks shy of his third birthday.
His family spoke with NewsChannel 5 reporter Chris Conte and said they can't understand how someone could kill a toddler, and shatter their world.
"They don't know what he meant, meant to us. They don't know that, and how they could do that, he was just a baby," Joseph's great grandmother, Janet, said.
Alexander was held in the Montgomery County Jail on a $5 million bond.
