A 55-year-old man has died after he was hospitalized in the ICU at Harris Methodist Hospital after being beaten in a Fort Worth Walmart parking lot.

Marty Britton survived brain surgery in June, but initially remained unresponsive, according to his wife, Rhonda.  He was recovering even further until recently taking a turn for the worse. He died on August 26, more than two months after the beating.

"You're not supposed to have blood in the brain. He had it from the back side to the front lobe, and this front lobe," Rhonda said in June when she was first interviewed

Fort Worth police are still investigating the attack, which happened around 6 p.m. on June 12 at the Walmart on Anderson Boulevard.

In surveillance video from the site, Britton is seen pulling into the parking lot in a white truck. A black hatchback also pulls in, and its passengers get out to examine the rear of that car.

Police are unsure if there was some type of fender bender ahead of both cars pulling into the parking lot. But what happens next is a clear assault.

"The driver [of the black car] exits the vehicle, strikes him [Britton] a number of times," Det. Joe Kalbfleisch said.

The occupants of the hatchback then speed off, while other shoppers rush to help Britton.
