August 16, 2015 -- Two of four charges were dropped when the death of a North Carolina woman was rule accidental.

Ashley Marie Wassilchalk, 25, was found dead on the side of a road in Wilson.

Her 27-year-old boyfriend, Brian Keonte Knight, was charged in connection with the hit-and-run. Knight was a former sheriff's deputy according to one report.

Wassilchalk was the mother of two sons ages 2 and 4.

According to emergency dispatchers, two passerbys found Wasshilchalk on the side of the road. They immediately called 911.

According to the Wilson Times, Wassilchalk was rushed to an area hospital, but was pronounced dead a short time later.

Her boyfriend, 27-year-old Brian Keonte Knight, was charged in connection with the hit-and-run, the Wilson Times reports.

On Wednesday, the medical examiner ruled Wassilchalk’s death was accidental.

Involuntary manslaughter and felony death my motor vehicle charges against Knight were dismissed. He still faces a felony hit-and-run charge and DWI, police said.

On Thursday, Channel 11’s Courtney Brennan spoke with Wassilchalk’s mother and sister, who live in Charleroi.  Tracy and Stephanie Brownfield said they’re upset some of the charges were dropped.

“I want to know why my daughter died. I want to know why this man killed my daughter,” Wassilchalk’s mother said.

Wassilchalk was the mother of 2- and 4-year-old boys.

“Oh my grandsons, it breaks my heart,” Wassilchalk’s mother said.
