Police tape, bullet holes, and evidence markers only begin to indicate the chaos that was Saturday night.
"It was a reckless environment where anyone could have been killed," said Troy Police Chief John Tedesco.
Two Troy police officers shot while responding to a call for an attempted carjacking.
"When these two officers reported for duty yesterday, the last thing they envisioned is being in Albany Medical Center with bullet wounds," Tedesco said.
At a press conference Sunday morning, Tedesco released details into how that initial report escalated to a fatality.
Officer Joshua Comitale was on patrol when he spotted a suspect matching the caller's description. The chief says Comitale began to pursue 39-year-old Thaddeus Faison on foot and called for backup.
"He has a very violent criminal past, multiple charges for weapons possession," said Tedesco.
Soon, Officer Chad Klein arrived to assist.
"The bullet hit him in the back of the shoulder," Tedesco said.
Police say Faison shot Klein and then turned the gun on Comitale. The officer was shot in both his legs.
Police say Faison was shot and eventually taken into custody.
"He continued to struggle after being shot multiple times, he had to be tased at the scene, and it took four officers to get him into restraints," said Tedesco.
He later died from his injuries at the hospital.
