Elizabeth Pence woke to the sound of glass breaking and gunshots before finding her husband and son dead of shotgun blasts.
Nicholas, 25, was shot twice; David, 56, was shot three times.
The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office says 17-year-old Dexter Allen and 18-year-old Haraquon Degruy are responsible for the execution-style murder of David and Nicholas Pence on Wednesday.
Sheriff Newell Normand said they gathered evidence quickly after getting to the home.
"We began this investigations with little or no information," Normand said. "In a short period of time we were able to pick up security video from a number of neighbors that revealed and validated from some of the friends that were there earlier that evening."
On that video and from traffic cameras, they spotted a white SUV leaving near where the murder happened. That was the first clue.
"A friend of the family told police they spotted a white Toyota Highlander driving through the area suspiciously with the headlights off that night. Investigators learned that same truck was stolen in an armed robbery earlier that day," Normand said.
Police say a number of car burglaries happened in the area the same day. That led them to the first suspect.
"We were able to get a fingerprint off of one of those vehicles and that belonged to Degruy," Normand said.
