Rather than take matters into her own hands, Sexton did the right thing and called the police, expecting a visit from professional law enforcement officers.
What she got was Officer LaDoniqua Neely.
Neely shot Sexton in the chest. The woman died later in the hospital.
What do we expect next? Riots in Gastonia, North Carolina? White-lives-matter protesters blocking interstate highways? Wall-to-wall news coverage for months on end? Eric Holder to send a posse of investigators? White hordes crashing restaurants staring at black patrons?

Sexton’s niece, Samantha Kennedy, said the family was in shock Tuesday at the news.
“It doesn’t feel real,” she said.
Kennedy remembers Sexton as a woman who always wanted to help people. She’d let people share her home when they needed a place to stay and was always there for her family, said her niece.
“She was always there for us whenever we would get into an argument with our parents or whatever, no matter what time of night she’d come get us and be there for us,” she said.
Kennedy said she spoke with her aunt frequently. She says she’ll always remember the small “parties” her aunt would throw for her and other relatives.
Kennedy says they’d get dressed up, turn on music and play around in the house. She was the “cool aunt,” her niece says.
Sexton leaves behind a teenager and an adult child.
