Mall brawls were also reported on Saturday.
Virtually all of them involved gentle giants and subsequent police actions.
Among brawl sites we've identified are:
• Arden Fair mall in Sacramento, Calif.
A local news source reported, "A fight broke out at the mall’s food court about 4:30 p.m. Friday, according to mall security. When security guards and police officers tried to usher the individuals out, more brawls started near the center court, said Steve Reed, mall security chief."
• Wolfchase Galleria in Memphis, Tenn.
One report claimed there were 250 gentle giants involved. "We had a large group of juveniles creating a disturbance inside the mall," a police statement distributed by spokesperson Alyssa Macon-Moore said. "Scene officers requested additional cars for crowd control."
• Navy Pier in Chicago, Ill.
Reports say five arrests were made and a pregnant woman was injured. The gentle giants -- estimated ages between 15 and 22 -- left the premises and made their way northward, the report said, continuing their ratchet behavior as they roamed the night streets.
• The Monroeville Mall in Monroeville, Penn. (Pittsburgh)
At least two young adults were taken to hospitals for non-life-threatening injuries, said Monroeville police Chief K. Douglas Cole, and at least two were arrested for fighting from a domestic dispute earlier in the day. He said he expects a number of disorderly conduct citations to be issued as well, although he could not say how many. The chief said his officers learned later Friday that through social media, hundreds of teens were showing up at the mall, with the influx starting about 4:30 or 5 p.m. and reaching as many as 1,000, according to mall security officers.
• Opry Mills Mall in Nashville, Tenn.
Metro Police responded to reports of a large fight in the food court of Opry Mills Mall Saturday evening. Police say the disturbance was caused by three juveniles. Mall security was able to break-up the fight before police arrived on the scene, but officers helped to clear the scene, pushing hundreds of people out of the mall.
• Chicago Ridge Mall, Chicago, Ill.
Police say there was a fight involving dozens of teens in the mall’s food court. There were additional calls of possible shots fired, but investigators tell WGN they have not been able to confirm those reports. Police closed the mall by 7pm, hours before it was scheduled to close for the night.
• Independence Center Mall, Kansas Cty, Mo.
Police from Independence and Kansas City, Mo. were among multiple agencies that responded to fights at the Independence Center on Friday night. The exact number and nature of the fights aren’t known, but it was a chaotic scene at the busy mall.
• NorthPark Mall, Davenport, Iowa
Davenport police made three arrests Saturday at NorthPark Mall after a fight broke out near the entrance of J.C. Penney. Officers were called to the mall at 5:17 p.m. for a “large fight,” Sgt. Andrew Harris said. Two off-duty officers were working at the mall when the fight broke out and 10 additional officers arrived at the scene.
