A woman and teen are dead after a multistate search that ended in a shooting and traffic jam on I-75 in Warren County Friday.

Authorities said 41-year-old Terry Froman of Brookport, Illinois, shot and killed 17-year-old Michael “Eli” Mohney at the teen's home in Mayfield, Kentucky Friday morning. Deputies said he then took the teen's mother hostage and left the scene.

The kidnapping of 34-year-old Kim Thomas by her estranged boyfriend Froman led police on a massive search that ended when he was pulled over near mile marker 31 just before 1:30 p.m., Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers said.

Authorities said Froman shot himself before they approached the driver's side door. Thomas, a licensed nurse, was found dead inside the vehicle. Froman was taken to Atrium Medical Center in Middletown with a wound that wasn't life threatening.

I-75 was shut down in both directions for about an hour after the shooting. Southbound lanes reopened between Ohio 63 and Ohio 122 at about 2:15 p.m. Two northbound lanes reopened at about 10 p.m.

  1. She committed the unforgivable sin...........her vile decision was tragically expensive..........

  2. Her estranged boyfriend, huh? Guess she liked the bad boyz, as she might have put it. Shame about the kid, though. Seemed he had some sense of family loyalty. Me, I would have disowned anyone, no matter how closely related to me, who would act so foolishly.
