The blow sent Detective Adrian Delfaus, 29, crashing to the floor where his head slammed into the concrete causing bleeding of the brain. The officer was rushed to the hospital where he was placed into a medically induced coma.

Adrian Delfaus was sucker punched on the downtown 6 platform at E. 23rd St. by a man who got into an argument with his cousin. Delfaus was put into a medically induced coma and awoke Sunday morning, police sources said, surrounded by family at Bellevue Hospital. The man who punched him remains at large.
Authorities released a sketch of the suspect, described as a 5-foot-9, 200-pound black man in his early 40s.

In reality, Jim Crow laws -- including racial segregation at public transportation facilities -- existed to protect white people from black-on-white racist violence.
