|Barb Boxer uses McCarthyism to play|
Falsely accusing someone of McCarthyism is, therefore, McCarthyism. In fact, playing the McCarthyism card is commonly employed by liberal Democrats in lieu of valid arguments.
Accusing others of being homophobes, racists, etc. could also be considered McCarthyism.
At issue is the belligerent Barb Boxer. The Senator is accusing fellow senator, Ted Cruz, of McCarthyism. Boxer is annoyed that Cruz's opposition to railroading the nomination of Chuck Hagel for defense secretary.
The accusation is throw-back to the 1950s when U.S. Senator Joe McCarthy outed members of Communist Party, particularly those in high-profile and influential positions. Liberals lament that many careers were busted due to McCarthy's investigations. What liberals never admit is that McCarthy's investigations were effective in depleting the number of subversives in Hollywood, while clearing the names of tainted suspects, such as Lucille Ball.
The McCarthy investigations shamed America's political left. Liberals countered by using McCarthyism to paint McCarthyism as an evil scourge in American history.
