DAILYKENN.com -- First Amendment? What's that?
Apparently some folks in Columbia, Maryland don't know.
The First Amendment guarantees our right to speak our minds. The objective — among other things — is to keep tyrants at bay.
The founders seemed to follow this logic: I may not agree with your opinion, but will defend to death your right to express it.
Howard County Sheriff James F. Fitzgerald had the audacity to note that black people have a appetite for watermelon and fried chicken. He also noted that black deputies managed to get the job done, though they were kind of dumb.
Specifically he allegedly said that black sheriff’s deputies “are not too smart, but they get the job done.”
“There’s no watermelon there for you!”
“Are you getting the chicken special?”
Squeaky clean with wings and halos are condemning the sheriff for his racism.
Somehow I sense that black deputies may be making a case for a lucrative lawsuit.
