A Connecticut school district has banned hoodies; sweatshirt with hoods. Ostensibly the new rule aligns with the district's 'dress for success' philosophy.
The ban may be a Jim Crow tactic; a means of discouraging black students from wearing hoodies. The sweatshirts are often associated with black crime because the hood — like Klan hoods — helps hide the identity of the wearer.
