DAILYKENN.com -- Police captain Dave Melton was killed while investigating a gun fight in Kansas City, Kansas.

The murder occurred on July 19, 2016.

From fox4kc.com:

Daqon Sipple, 18, was charged with aggravated assault of a law enforcement officer and criminal discharge of a firearm.

Wyandotte County District Attorney Jerome Gorman, says that on July 19th, Sipple was involved in gunfire that Capt. Dave Melton was investigating at the time of his murder.

Another man, who police believe was Jamaal Lewis, 20, is also accused of that gunfire. Police say he fled from them that day and then opened fire on Capt. Melton near 22nd and Georgia as he tried to avoid arrest. Lewis was charged with capital murder of a law enforcement officer, aggravated assault and criminal discharge of a firearm.  Lewis is being held on a $10-million bond.

Sipple was taken into custody 19 minutes before Capt. Melton was shot. In order for Sipple to be liable for the death or the actions of Lewis, prosecutors would have to prove that Sipple knew that Lewis planned to shoot an officer.

Sipple will be sentenced in November. Melton leaves behind three children, and was expecting a fourth child with his girlfriend. He has nine siblings..
