DAILYKENN.com -- Walter Lee Stewart, 63, was charged with first degree murder.

Dead is 35-year-old Terri Wright.

Wright was Sewart's girlfriend, reports say.

Stewart is black. Wright was white.

The crime occurred in West Plains, Missouri and was reported August 16, 2016.

From westplainsdailyquill.net:

Walter Lee Stewart, 63, Lanton Road, was arrested at 5:28 p.m. Monday at his home and was charged on Tuesday with first degree murder, armed criminal action, domestic assault and abandonment of a corpse in the murder of his girlfriend, Terri Wright, 35.

He is in the Howell County Jail without bail.

According to the complaint filed by the Howell County Prosecutor’s Office, Stewart caused the death of his girlfriend by stabbing her by using a dangerous instrument. He committed the felony of domestic assault in that on or about July 24 or July 25, he repeatedly stabbed his girlfriend with a dangerous instrument and between July 24 and August 9, he disposed the body of his girlfriend at a pond in the eastern portion of the trailer park at 800 Lanton Road in West Plains.

On Monday, detectives spoke with a person of interest in the case. Information obtained led detectives and officers to search a wooded area in West Plains, across the road from the trailer park where the partial remains of Wright was subsequently found.

“After reading the missing person report in The Quill Saturday and knowing the father stayed in contact with his daughter when it was reported she was missing I knew it was bad,” an unidentified neighbor told the Quill Tuesday.

The neighbor said the suspect and his girlfriend had lived together at least for a year at the trailer park and he spoken to the two several times during the past year. He said police had been called to the trailer home but wasn’t sure why. After a check with police, the Quill learned police had been called to several verbal domestic incidents since 2009 at other addresses in West Plains. The last time law enforcement officers were called for a verbal domestic situation was in mid-July at the address on Lanton Road.
