DAILYKENN.com -- One-year-old Jacob Marbur was left with hand-sized bruises on his face after his parents entrusted him to a babysitter.
Arrested for the crime was 27-year-old Markell Hilaire.
Hilaire cared for the boy for two hours. When the parents returned they found their toddler bruised and beaten.
No immediate arrests were made. That prompted the child's father to launch on online crusade to demand justice. After three months of campaigning, an arrest was made.
Hilaire, who initially pleaded not guilty, admitted third-degree assault today [July 29, 2016] and was sentenced to three months in prison followed by three years of probation, according to kptv.com.

The babysitter, Markell Hilaire, pleaded guilty to third-degree assault and apologized. The crime occurred in Washington County, Oregon.
“First of all, I want to apologize for what I did,” he said in court. “It does not define what I am and I was not in the right state of mind when I did what I did and I hope that Jacob is ok and he grows.”
Jacob's mother Alicia Quinney said Hilaire was a family friend and watched over Jacob and his older sister back in march.
Quinney said when she and Jacob's dad came home they found the boy crying and alone on the floor of his bedroom, while Hilaire was passed out on the couch.
“My 3-year-old daughter, till this day, still talks about the stuff that happened that night,” she said.
Hilaire’s aunt, Dionee Hilaire, said she doesn't agree with the sentence because the parents knew he was drunk.
“I have a 17-year-old son, and I would never leave him in the hands of a drunk individual,” she said. “I mean you guys have kids. Would you leave them in the hands of drunk people? I don't think so.”
After her nephew pleaded guilty, though, she said she will support him.
Hilaire will be sentenced to three months in jail and three years of supervised probation.
Prosecutors waited nearly three months to pursue the case because of a wrinkle in the state law that requires prosecutors to prove beyond a reasonable doubt Jacob had suffered substantial pain and serious injury.
