DAILYKENN.com -- I'm old enough to remember when he was Cassius Clay. The professional boxer changed his name to Muhammad Ali when he joined the racist hate group Nation of Islam then used his religious affiliation to dodge the draft and avoid serving his country during the Viet Nam War.
Ali was arrested and found guilty of draft evasion and stripped of his boxing title. He successfully appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court. In 1971 his conviction was overturned.
Having lived during the Viet Nam war I knew several young men who fought and one who died in the conflict. I consider Ali to be a traitor and not worthy of honor.
As a member of Islam, Ali participated in the world's largest, oldest, and deadliest hate group.
