The small town is located just northeast of Pretoria.
Reports say the farmer was alerted to the home invasion by a cellphone call from his housekeeper. His six-year-old grandson also noted two black gunmen enter the home and also alerted the farmer, "Papa, there are men with guns in the house."
After hiding his three grandchildren behind an outdoor wall, André de Koning, 66, was met with gunfire upon entering his house. When the farmer returned fire a bullet struck one of the two intruders in the head. The intruder was killed. The other managed to escape.
De Koning, his wife Linda, 64, their three grandchildren, and housekeeper consider themselves fortunate to have survived the attack.
Thousands of white farmers and their family members have been murdered by black burglars in South Africa in recent years.
The attack was reported Oct. 1, 2015.
