DAILYKENN.com -- A parade of hearses crawled through the streets of St. Louis last week. The city was the site of a convention of funeral directors. The long line of hearses was part of an effort to underscore the severity of black-on-black violence that is all too familiar to the nation's urban morticians.
William C. Harris, Jr., a black funeral home director, summed up the problem: “Our race is being diminished by violence and it’s senseless.”"We are tired of burying our children," he added. A Los Angeles mortuary director lamented that gangs in his city are trying to kill 100 people in 100 days.
The comments were reported by the local Fox News television station in St. Louis. Black-on-black violence in urban communities is on the rise.
119 such homicides were reported in Baltimore, Maryland in the past three months. That city's mayor notoriously issued a 'stand down' order to the police while black teens rioted earlier this year. It's the highest number of homicides in the city in 43 years, reports say. As officials such as Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake order police to stand down, the number of violent crimes go up.
The cause and effect is seen nation wide. Fox News says the recent epidemic of black-on-black homicides is a national epidemic. Police officers are punished by the media when encounters with black suspects turn deadly. The result is fewer cops willing to risk their reputations and livelihood to make arrests. Some police fear the prospect of facing murder charges when encounters go wrong.
They stand down.Violent black thugs, no doubt, sense their new-found freedom to commit violent crimes with impunity. The efforts of the Black Lives Matter to cajole law enforcement to disengage with black offenders has produced a negative effect: More black lives are being lost.
Let's do the math.
At the current rate, Baltimore can expect about 475 black-on-black homicides per year; that's 4,750 blacks murdered by other blacks over a ten year span. If those number hold true nationwide, there will be 475,000 black-on-black murders in America during the next ten years.
We derive that conclusion by noting one percent of America's black population lives in Baltimore. The end game is to calibrate national crime statistics. When police are compelled to make fewer arrests of blacks, the Dept. of Justice will necessarily report fewer crimes committed by blacks.
The disparity between black and white crime statistics will diminish but, as Mr. Harris aptly observed, so will the black race. The effect of law enforcement on black lives was also made apparent in New York City.
When Democrat David Dinkins was mayor, thousands of lives were lost to homicides:
A total of 6,544 lives were saved in four years alone! Most of those were black lives.
It's an abstract the predatory left seems incapable of comprehending: Law enforcement saves black lives.
