Hawaii Island police reported Monday that they identified the female victim of a homicide that occurred on Friday, Aug. 14, in Hilo.
She was 49-year-old Danielle Caron of no permanent address. Caron was identified through fingerprints but police withheld her name until next of kin could be notified.
Curtis Hodges, 35, originally from Shiloh, Illinois, has been charged with second degree murder in connection with Caron’s death. He was arrested for second-degree murder at 11 a.m. Friday at a hostel on Kamehameha Avenue.
Hodges had been living in the area for about a month and officials say he has a criminal background.
“We found a lot of evidence on video footage. We haven’t looked through all the video footage yet, but there’s a lot of video footage,” said Capt. Robert Wagner, Hawaii Police Department. “There’s a business in Hilo that has video surveillance cameras and we also have county cameras on top of poles throughout Hilo town.”
Police say the victim and the suspect didn’t know each other.
Hodges may be facing additional charges, which are pending forensic laboratory testing.
