It turns out that the new book, Go Set a Watchman, isn't new at all.
It was written 58 years ago.
Harper Lee is the author of both books and, according to the Washington Post, vowed she would never publish again after Mockingbird was published. Lee suffered a stroke in 2009.
The query turns on Lee's decision-making abilities and if the publishing of the "new" novel is nothing more than a effort to cash in on the Mockingbird's ability to pad the bottom line of publishers, agents, and others involved.
Lee is said to earn about $3-million per year.
• To Kill A Mockingbird is considered by some to be the ultimate, if not the original, white guilt novel-turned-movie that embedded the false narrative in the minds of white Americans that the reality of brutal black-on-white crime should be dismissed as a figment of our white-privileged imaginations.
