Filmmaker Dinesh D'Souza skirted that law by donating money to donors who, in turn, donated the money to a candidate.
He was sentenced on Tuesday to spend eight months in a community confinement center during five years of probation after pleading guilty to the campaign finance law violation.
D'Souza is an immigrant from India who is known for his conservative political and social perspectives. To paleoconservatives he is generally disliked for pressuring The Washington Times
to fire writer Samuel Francis whom D'Souza considered a racist.
