Two of those officers, Perry Renn of Indianapolis and Jeffrey Westerfield of Gary, were gunned down by blacks.
A third officer, Jacob D. Calvin, was killed when his police cruiser crashed.
From our source we read:
It’s been a statewide week of heartbreak.
Gov. Mike Pence declared an official period of mourning for three law enforcement officers laid to rest this week.
Flags were lowered in Tipton County Monday in honor of Tipton County deputy Jacob Calvin. Pence ordered flags to be lowered across the state after Indianapolis Metropolitan police officer Perry Renn and Gary police officer Jeffrey Westerfield were killed in the line of duty.
“Every Hoosier feels the loss of these fallen officers and stands with their families and communities during this week of heartbreak. It is altogether fitting that every community in Indiana show solidarity, support and prayers for these officers and their families during this time,” Pence said in a statement.
He asked Hoosiers to “remember the service and sacrifice of these men and their families” during the period of mourning.
Calvin was laid to rest Monday. Pence will travel to Lake County Tuesday to meet with Westerfield’s family. A public memorial for Renn is scheduled for Friday.
