The inconsistencies within leftist idealism clash.
A current clash is being played out in Hollywood.
On one side is xenophobia, a hate term used by leftists to defame patriotic Americans who object to Islamic incursions into Western culture. On the other side are the idiosyncrasies of Islam that debase women and consign homosexuals to the gallows.
The battle field is the The Beverly Hills Hotel.
The posh place where fundraisers prefer to hold events is suffering a dearth of business as non-profit groups are cancelling their venues and taking them elsewhere, lest they offend the Hollywood elite, their deep pockets, and desire to seek out worthwhile tax exempt contributions.
Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah owns the hotel. Bolkiah is pressing forward with a Shariah penal code in native Brunei that would include dismemberment as punishment for personal sins, such as adultery and homosexuality.
Those taking offense is music mogul Clive Davis. Jay Leno has lent his voice to the opposition as has DreamWorks’ CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg.
It will interesting to see how the leftist elite of Rodeo Drive reconcile their intolerance of Islam with their condemnation of patriot Americans who also wish to draw the line against Islamic extremism.
