Scores of black and Hispanic students brawled at Streamwood High School yesterday. Six were reported arrested.

"Everybody started jumping in and fighting,” said student Tylus Wilson.

“It was at least 40 kids fighting, then it travelled all the way up to the 2nd floor. They fought inside the offices,” said student Deshawn Cavin.

“Talking stuff through Twitter, Facebook That’s how it all started and then it goes to when they see each other,” said student Leslie Rojas.

Still, authorities said they can't determine the cause of the racial tension.

Reality is that most of us want to get along. Tribalism, however, is embedded in our genetic composition.

Police arrested six students at Streamwood High School on Tuesday, after a fight that prompted a “hold in place” order at the school.

Six students were arrested in connection with the fight. No one was seriously hurt, although one student had a bloody lip. It was unclear how many students were involved in the fight.

Police from Streamwood and several surrounding suburbs responded after a racially-based lunchroom brawl quickly spun out of control.

“It was at least 40 kids fighting, then it travelled all the way up to the 2nd floor. They fought inside the offices,” said student Deshawn Cavin.

Even inside the school office, the brawl continued.

“The African-Americans and the Hispanics, they were just attacking each other today,” said student Sarah Sullivan.

The brother of one of those taken into custody, says he saw the one-on-one fight that touched it off.

“He tried swinging at my friend. He ducked and bust him and they started going at it. Everybody started jumping in and fighting,” said stunt Tylus Wilson.

Tensions between the groups mounting for some time, ignited through social media.

“Talking stuff through Twitter, Facebook That’s how it all started and then it goes to when they see each other,” said student Leslie Rojas.

Parents tell say just a few weeks ago, students and police met to defuse tensions, apparently to no avail.

The confrontation took place May 13, 2014.
