Democrats are into branding.
They branded Obama as the 'hope and change' candidate.
The Dems are also into branding Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan . . . as "ideologues."
Below are a few examples:
• Messina: "ultraconservative ideologues"
• Obama: Ryan is "ideological leader"
• Axelrod: "certifiable right-wing ideologue."
• Biden: "Right-Wing Ideologues Lining Up"
By way of Google, here are a few zillion other examples...
According to Webster, an "ideologue" is "An adherent of an ideology, esp. one who is uncompromising and dogmatic: 'a Nazi ideologue'."
Now, apart from the Nazi slam, I fail to see why that brand is a problem.
After all, one of America's greatest leaders, Thomas Jefferson, expressed his view that refusing to compromise was a character trait to be admired.
He said, "“I hold it as honorable to take a firm and decided part and as immoral to pursue a middle line, as between the parties of honest men and rogues, into which every country is divided.”
The choice is not between uncompromising sticks-in-mud (Romney and Ryan) and progressives with forward thinking ideals (Obama and Biden).
Rather, the choice is between Jeffersonian and Marxist ideologues.
